MONTREAL -- Two products of the McGill University women's rugby program -- Caroline Suchorski of Kirkland, Que., and Julianne Zussman, originally from Ottawa -- are among 42 players invited by Francois Ratier, head coach the Canadian national team, to attend a two-week training camp in preparation for the upcoming World Cup in Marcoussis and Paris, France, August 1-17.

Suchorski, a 5-foot-8 centre, is a science junior majoring in dietetics. Zussman, a 5-foot-8 halfback, graduated from McGill in 2008 with a degree in international development studies. She has been part of the national program since 2007.

The camp is slated to begin next week at Shawnigan Lake School in Mill Bay, B.C., and the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence, also situated on Vancouver Island.  Canada will play a two-game series against the US (April 15 and 19), followed by a three-game tour in New Zealand and the World Cup tourney. The CAN-AM series will be streamed live.

"It will be great to see all the talent that will be here from across the country," said Ratier, in a release issued by Rugby Canada. "This is a very gifted group of ladies we have to select from this year. It will be a tough decision, but in the end we will come out with the strongest team possible leading us to the World Cup in August."

With 11 newly capped players last year, the Canadaian women's program is booming with an inlux of talent.

"It really shows how much the sport is progressing; the level of talent and skill we have invited to this camp is excellent," said Steve Lancaster, Rugby Canada's high-performance manager. "With so few opportunities to showcase their skills, these players areprimarily responsible for training and preparing for the international fifteens program on their own. From a high-performance perspective, it is great to see these players working so hard to ensure they are ready for the huge year of international women's rugby ahead of us in 2014."
