MONTREAL -- Melodie Daoust of the McGill University Martlets was selected fourth overall by the Montreal Canadiennes and one of 113 players picked from nine countries in the 2017 Canadian Women's Hockey League Draft on Sunday.

Held at the Hockey Hall of Fame's Doc Seaman Centre in Toronto, the newest draft class featured players from 65 different U SPORTS and NCAA programs and players from around the world, including Canada, USA, China, New Zealand and Turkey, among others.

Daoust, 25, who hails from Valleyfield, Que., graduted as team captain of the Martlets in June and finished her illustrious McGill career with a 116-156-272 record in 143 games overall. A four-time All-Canadian centre, Daoust was a physical education major who won gold with Team Canada at the Sochi Winter Olympics. A three-time recipient of the Gladys Bean Trophy as McGill's female athlete of the year, she led the Martlets to three RSEQ conference titles and four appearances at the Nationals.

"The 2017 CWHL Draft represents an exciting time for our league," said CWHL commissioner Brenda Andress in a press release. "In the eighth year of our draft, we added another talented group of NCAA and U SPORTS graduates who will help grow our game. These passionate players will complement our existing rosters, and their additions show the growth of the CWHL. I wish every one of these players the very best of luck as they get set for the next step in their hockey careers with our seven great teams."
