MONTREAL -- The 2017 national champion McGill University women's basketball team and Olympic hockey tournament MVP Melodie Daoust, a McGill graduate, were among 57 finalists unveiled at La Brasserie Molson-Coors on Tuesday, for the 45th annual SportsQuebec gala, slated for May 10.

The basketball Martlets are among three finalists for Quebec female team of the year, a category that includes Les Canadiennes de Montreal, winners of the Clarkson Cup as National Women's Hockey League champs, and the provincial under-18 hockey team, which won gold at the 2017 Canada Games.

Daoust is one of three finalists for Quebec's international athlete of the year in a team sport. Joining her in that category is Elyse Lemay-Lavoie, a member of the national water polo squad who was the leading scorer at the FISU Games, and Mathieu Roy, a member of the national senior softball team

The Martlet cagers, under the guidance of head coach Ryan Thorne, posted a 25-9 overall record en route to capturing the RSEQ conference title and their first-ever U SPORTS national championship, in Victoria, B.C., with a 66-55 victory over Laval on March 12, 2017. They were the first Quebec university team to win the a national crown in 33 years, since Bishop's in 1984.

Daoust, a two-time recipient of the Gladys Bean Trophy as McGill female athlete of the year, led Canada to a silver medal in women's hockey at the PyeongChang Winter Games. The team posted a 4-1 record at the Games, losing the gold medal contest 3-2 in a shootout against the U.S. Daoust, a 26-year-old native of Valleyfield, Que., was named tourney MVP and finished third in tourney scoring race, with seven points, including three goals in five games. She added a marker in the shootout.
